The state of Texas is currently considering a law which would outlaw trans fats from being served by restaurants. The stated reason the Government thinks they should be able to tell you what you can eat is simple; It is bad for you. They go on to blame trans fats for bad cholesterol, 200-pound fifth graders, and heart attacks.
But, how did trans fats become so entrained in the American diet?
The Government (yes. The same Government now trying to ban trans fats) promoted trans fats as a healthier alternative to the use of butter.
Look - I can hardly buy anything that isn't labeled "0-Trans Fat". So the reality is that the market has made the choice not to load up on trans fats, not the Government.
This law will put Texas right up there with other nanny-states such as California and New York. ...and we all know there are no 200 pound fifth-graders in New York.
Give me a break.
Get off my back.
Don't tread on me.
Am I really supposed to believe that Democratic Representative Carol Alvarado even knows what a trans fat is?
