A recent poll from Rasmussen suggests that 27% of American adults think that Socialism is a better system than Capitalism. Another 20% were simply undecided. That leaves a slim lead for the people who support Capitalism of 53%.
But, when you dig deeper into the story, you see that the people being surveyed simply didn't understand the questions they were being asked. The question posed by Rasmussen Reports did not define either capitalism or socialism. In a separate study, 70% of the people surveyed prefer a free-market economy. And only 14% believe the federal government would do a better job running auto companies, and even fewer believe government would do a better job running financial firms. Apparently those people have never been to a post office, the DMV, seen their Social Security statements, or realized that the Senate couldn't even run their own catering business.
I would like to propose new poll questions for Rasmussen to ask the American people:
1. Do you really want a Government that can't run a restaurant controlling your medical care?
2. On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate the success of East Germany?
3. Do you like being able to own your own possessions?
The fact is that while Socialism promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny.
